The black Panthers were a group of young black activists. The group was founded in 1966 in Oakland, California by Huey Newton. The group had a lot of symbols; they were dressed in leather vests and had often visible weapons. The Group fought for justice for black people, they were against the system and their primary mission was to end the superiority of the white man and end the inferior of the black man. Because of their ability to spread propaganda like their newspaper the Black Panther the group developed fast and in the end of the 60s the peak of members was at 10.000 people – both black and white.

They were eager demonstrators, and by the end the 1970s they had made marches and demonstrations all over the states. The main part of the organization was nonviolent, but the most hardcore members, went mad and made violent actions. So quickly the rest of the group established a bad reputation among many. The Group was like a local militia, because they meant that it was the only way to protection, because of police corruption, like in Missisippi burning. So In many cities they were a part of the streets. They had a lot of political programs and views to secure rights for black, but It was all overshadowed by their criminal attitude. In the last years of the existing, the members left became more and more violent, and involved in crime. Internal fights and disagreements was one of the reasons why the group split up in 1982 and with the death of the founder Huey Newton the rest of the Panthers faded out.
