Searching for sugar man is a real-life documentary directed by Malik Bendjelloul. The film was released on the 26th of July 2012. The main characters are: Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, (a Mexican-American folk musician, born on July 10, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan) whom the film is based on, Stephen “Sugar” Segerman (South African record shop owner), Craig Bartholomew Strydom (article 'Looking for Jesus') and Malik Bendjelloul (Writer and interviewer). I watched the film at home, the 28th of September and the 6th of October.

In the early 1970, Sixto Rodriguez was an unknown folksinger from Detroit, USA. He had a small recording career with only 2 albums that didn’t sell in America. Rodriguez got fired by the music companies and went back to construction business. Behind the back of Sixto Rodriguez his album “cold fact” went oversees to South Africa and Australia. The album was so popular at its time and sold more than Bob Dylan and even Elvis Presley. He became a pop music icon and inspiration for generations. The rumor about Rodriguez committing suicide on stage remained a mystery. A few South African fans decided to seek out the truth of their hero. They found Rodriguez daughter on a forum and after years of searching they finally found him. He performed at many sold-out concerts in Africa.
