I am going to tell about the robots from the Robo Business 2009 Conference and Expo in Boston, which will give you a view on different kinds of robots, for different purposes, about the personal robot PaPeRo, which currently is a prototype robot developed by the Japanese company NEC and about the major problems about personal robots.

At the Robo Business 2009 Conference and Expo in Boston, there were some prototypes of different kinds of robot. The main drivers who were mentioned in the article are the eldercare robots, or healthcare robots in general, robots for military purposes and sentient robot technology.

The first topic mentioned in the article, is about eldercare. Tandy Trower says that there might be a major expansion in the number of pensioners, those who is in the age of 65 or older. Therefore there might come a greater need of eldercare robots, who could help taking care of those with decreased mobility and chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s and even robots just helping with lightweight transportation like getting a cup of coffee could be very valuable in the long run. One of the main robots mentioned in the article is the roboLAB10, a proof-of-concept robot made by the French company, Robosoft, which was designed to follow and assist an elderly in their own home. It is equipped with a touch-screen, a voice interface and special robot navigation software developed by Silicon Valley’s SRI international.
