Rabbit-Proof Fence, is a true story about three half blood Aboriginal girls, Molly, Daisy and Gracie, who had been forcibly removed from their families, and had been moved to an institution called Moore River. Here they were brought up together with other Aboriginal children. In the institution they checked how bright the skin color of the children were. The reason they did this was so, that they could conclude who should be allowed to go to school because they belived that the lighter the skin, the smarter the brain. in the institution they were only allowed to speak english. After some time in the institution the girls decided to ?ee over the Australian desert home to their families. To ?nd their way home they followed a rabbit fence, which a lady had they met told them they could follow to get home. When Mr. Neville, that was the man who controlled the institution discovered that the girls had ?ed, he sent Moodoo to ?nd the girls. But Moodoo lost the track of the girls and then Mr. Neville sent out more people to look for them. On their way home, the girls were feeding themselves by what they could ?nd in the nature and from people they met on their way, and drank from the water holes. The three girls met a man who said if they went to the train station, then their cousin Gracie could get home. But when they went to the train station, they discovered that the man had tricked them, and the people from the institution was waiting for them at the station and Gracie was cought. While Gracie was cought Molly and Daisy managed to hide. After having to leave Gracie behind Molly and Daisy managed to get home. Riggs managed to ?nd them after they got home, but the girls mother managed to scare him away. After this the girls lived in peace in with their mother in Australia.
