Summary
American Beauty is a dark, startling look at a family in suburban America. Lester and Carolyn Burnham are on the outside picture perfect. But on the inside everything is a mess, Lester finally snaps when he develops a crush one of his daughter’s girlfriends, then he drastically change his life around by quitting his job, and starting to not care about his wife. Meanwhile, his daughter Jane is feeling pretty much the same way as him, fed up with her life and everything, that is until she starts dating Ricky Fitts, the weird boy next door, who is a drug dealer, that has this thing for recording random things with his video camera. One night Ricky’s dad thinks he is seeing Ricky having sex with Lester, so when he confront him about it, Ricky lies and tells his dad that it is true what he thinks he saw, which leads to Rick’s dad shooting Lester in the head.
