In Gil’s Own Words By Gil C. Alicea with Carmine DeSena
Dear Gil
I hope you are fine. I have read your story, and I can imagine how terrible your life you has been. I am really sorry about your mom’s dead. I hope she will get a place in paradise. After your mother died, I heard your father got back on drugs and was put in jail for armed robbery. I hope your father is fine, and will immediately come out of the jail and will stop using drugs. I’m glad that you are not doing drugs or smoking blunts, as you also said in the story, because you want to be a basketball player. I am cheering for you, and go for it!
I also heard that you were sent to the military, but it didn’t work out, because you were dismissed after beating a cadet. In this world you will get many troubles with people, but I will say one thing to you: Ignore, and don’t react to them, and they will eventually get tired and will never give bother you again.
After you were dismissed from the military, you went to a boarding school for trouble kids and now you are one of them, but show them you aren’t one of them. I have also read that have a lot of problems there, and the same thing, ignore. I know it’s difficult to ignore, but you have to show them that you are not one of them. You said that you like to talk with girls, and I have the same way too. I hope you soon will find a girlfriend, so you two can take care of each other and she can take some of your burden and give you strength.
