The prisoners were forced to build the prison by themselves.

5) What are the conditions like on Robben Island?The conditions on Robben Island were very bad, it was a brutal place to be sent and there were no escape. Most of the prisoners were put into single cells, they were so small some even couldn’t stretch their legs.
