This text is about Boot Camps in America. The boot camps are about teaching the children about prison and about being in one. In basis boot camps are a cross between military camps and jail. They are hoping that this should teach the kids a lesson. Once they have been in jail, they will do anything not to go there again. The boot camps are a 24-hour anticrime program, most for kids around 13 or 14 years. There is one boot camp, which they talk about in the text. It’s called Maricopa County boot camp. The kid’s normal clothes aren’t allowed in the boot camp. They have to wear jail uniforms. The guards are strict and consistent. One girl who has been there said that she could hear other kids crying doing the night. They get breakfast at 5.50 am. And the camp only spends 35 cent per meal, so it isn’t pretty. After breakfast an ex-offender tells the kids about getting into crime and how it was in jail. If you laugh or make jokes with your friends, the guards will come down on them. In the end of the day after 24 hours in the boot camp, the kids are desperate to get home. So these trips to the boot camps aren’t a trip to Disneyland.
