The Maoris way is to work together with all persons working for the good of the community. Every Maori grew their own food. They had no need for money because everything was shared within the community. The traditional food harvest of the Maoris was the sweet potato. The planting and harvesting of this was the subject of many festivals and without the sweet potato, the Maori would not have survived. Tribal groups would often go hunting or fishing. To find these foods and it meant that the Maoris knew a lot about their outside surroundings.

The Maori meeting houses are made out of wood and are beautifully, decorated. The Maoris have always been skillful carvers. The carvings represent ancestor, figures and creatures from Maori tribal myths. One of the tradition is that of the Maori dance, called orhaka. It is usually performed by men, who sings at the same time. Moreover, it can express any theme.
