Against technology. One of the cornerstones of the Amish belief is that Christians must be in the world but not of the world (Rom. 12.2 ) . In some cases, they even waived buttons on clothes. The Amish have consistently refused to own technology, invented by the 17th century, because of the perceived vanity, which is a threat to the community.
