The story is about a boy named Krishna. He works almost all day long, unless he gets up early. His life is very simple, he wakes up, works the whole day and then goes to sleep, and in a very small house with he’s sister and mom. Krishna can neither write nor read, but he can count. Every day he counts to 1500, because that is the amount of cigarettes he makes a day. Krishna was told by the other workers in the factory that he had got nimble fingers, like Weaver Maama as his mom had told him. He didn’t really knew what it meant but he started wondering about being a weaver, instead of work for Saami . He concidered how he could sit by himself and make colourful garments.
One afternoon Krishna and his mom were sitting by the bonfire. Krishna asked his mom if he could be allowed to work for Weaver Maama instead of Saami. Her answer was what he had been hoping for “you cannot work for another person because your grandfather has accepted 5000 rupees and sold you to Saami” she said. And then his nimble fingers didn’t felt so nimble anymore.
