1) Among other things, in the beginning of the film the Queen says:
About Tony Blair: “Prime minister to be. I haven’t asked him yet”.
To Tony Blair: “I invite you to form a government in my name”.
To Tony Blair: “You are my tenth prime minister. My first was Winston Churchill”.
What do these quotes tell us about the Queen?
These quotes tell us, that the queen is kind of selfish and that she is aware of her power. The fact that Tony Blair is her tenth prime minister shows us, that she knows how they should be and act in order to become a proper prime minister. The fact that Tony is going to be under her and form a government in her name is a big responsibility, and she has to consider if he can live up to this, before she wants to ask him.
2) Does the Queen change during the film? If yes, how do you see this? The death of Princess Diana affects the Queen a lot. In the way the people react to the Monarch’s reaction and acts upon Diana’s death. The people do not think, that the queen is sad enough about the death, which they do not understand fully, which brings her in a bad position. The Prime minister points it out to her, that she has to show remorse to win back the support from the people of the UK. Afterwards it becomes clear to her that she has to change her attitude towards Diana’s death.Outside when the Queen and her husband walks by the big amounts of flowers and letters she sees a letter with the texts “you have Diana’s blood on your hands”. This touches her, and makes her realize even more, that something has to be done.
