Analyse af Barack Obamas tale 'The American Promise'

Back in 2008 august Barack Obama delivered the speech ¨The American promise¨ at the democratic convention In Colorado, when he was chosen as the candidate for the presidential election in 2008. In the speech Barack Obama talks about the American promise and tells all the Americans, that they have fought so many years until now. And it isn’t the time to stop fighting, but instead keep going towards the feature. Not alone, not with your closest family but with the whole nation of America. He spends a lot of time, telling what the American promise are telling and how they need to live their life as a happy american.

In the speech Barack Obama is using some kind of rhetorical devices. But one of the most used is the anaphora, that means several sentences starts with the same words. ¨It’s a promise that says each of us has the freedom to make our own lives what we will, but that we also have the obligation to treat each other with dignity and respect. It’s a promise that says the marked should reward drive and innovation and generate growth, but businesses should live up to their responsibilities to create American jobs, look out for the American workers, and play by the rules of the road¨. (ll. 18-24). This kind of rhetorical device helps Barack Obama underline his political views and makes it easier to understand as the receiver.
