An Essay on James Wall’s Short Story "Dancing to Nat King Cole"

What is loyalty really? This strange devotion that makes us feel obligated in being faithful to everything from a cause to a person. Scientist after scientist has been trying to figure it out. Some scientists think that only humans can be an object of trust and others think materiel things can also be. An unanswered question that has wondered many scientist is: are there actually any limitations to loyalty? Well that is a good question, because when it comes to a relationship for instance, how strong is loyalty really and how much can a loyal person take until that person loses his loyalty? Or put differently when is it okay for a person to stop being loyal and is it ever okay?“Dancing to Nat King Cole by James Wall, 2013” tells us the story of a broken relationship between Charles and Katherine Simpson, who share a grown up daughter, Rebecca. Charles, who is ill, constantly relies on Katherine’s help. Rebecca wants her mother to get help with her father but Katherine does not want to talk about it. One day, Charles suddenly starts getting aggressive against Kathrine as he does not recognize her and she hides under a desk. In the attempt to look for Katherine, Charles falls down the stairs.
