From prisoner to president Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th of July 1918 in the village of Mwezo in Transkei South Africa. He was brought up in a proud family of the Thembu tribe. From he was very young he was used to help others and give people advice. He studied law and opened a law firm. He was very politically active in ANC (African National Congress). His fight against Apartheid was an important part in his life. Apartheid means separation, more precisely the separation of races. It’s background is the immigration of white Europeans hundreds of years ago.
