“The perks of being a wallflower” is a novel (and movie) written by the talented author Stephen Chbosky. The novel takes place in the early 90´s, with the 16-year old teenage boy Charlie as the main character. While trying to make it through his freshman year of High school, Charlie´s also trying to deal with his first love Sam, and the struggles of his past. Charlie starts off, being a bit of an outcast, and doesn’t have any friends at school, well he had one but he ended his own life before the book took place. Fortunately, Charlie ends up becoming friends with Patrick from his shop class. Charlie meeting Patrick, also means that he gets to know Patricks’ friends. Even though Charlie´s glad he finally got friends to hang out with, they don’t quite have a positive influence on him, for instance he starts smoking, drinking, and also starts gets high off of drugs. Charlies friends are all seniors, which means that it comes to a point where they´re graduating, and Charlie being a freshman, he´s not taking that very well. He thinks that he feels alone again, like he did before he met Patrick, it also shows how much he truly cares about them. Throughout the book, Charlie has many ups and downs, mainly because of something that happened to him when he was younger, which has had a big influence on him and his personality.
