1c EN Written assignment on Kate Tempest: ”Europe is Lost” .

To be handed in 16 November at 22:00 in Lectio (your assignment must be handed in as a word document)

When we analyze texts, we basically look at what is said, and how it is said. Answer the following two questions on what and how separately.

Write a coherent account of 300-400 words of what Kate Tempest’s song/poem ”Europe is Lost” is about. How does she describe modern British life/society, and what kind of things does she criticize? Include 2 short quotes (a line or so) from the text to support your account.

It’s a rap/poem about what’s going on in the world.

Throughout the track, Tempest paints a shocking portrait of "Esther," a social worker in the cruelty and hypocrisy of a society filled with overmedicated children, terrorism, gun violence, racism and poverty. "Europe is lost, America is lost, London lost. Still we are clamouring victory,"

In this line, she tells us that’s It's too late now. That it’s gone beyond somebody being right and somebody being wrong. We're in the middle of a massive humanitarian crisis.

“The people are dead in their lifetimes” in this line she criticizes people. She means that the people still are alive, but their dreams are dead because they’ve given up on them. She also means that people are looking for something to give them purpose, but they never find it, because they give up so easily.
