Food Waste: Ethical and Industrial Perspectives

Around 800 million people suffer from severe malnutrition worldwide, due to lack of food access. But up to 4 billion tons of food goes to waste. Is this ethical? Has industrialization contributed to food waste? These are the questions I will be answering, alongside with coming up with ideas, and explaining why I think food waste I a negative solution. Food waste has a negative impact on today’s world and many aid agencies are trying to stop the food waste. Certain countries in Africa is still suffering from the lack of food, and I will be discussing what problems there are, and come with possible solutions. I will then draw a conclusion of the possible solutions.

Since the start of industrialization in the 19th century, mass productions have significantly been easier for the workers. The agricultural ways of producing food have been improved quite a bit because of the machines, but that may have resulted in an increase of food waste. Industrial food production has led to more effortless food production, which could lead to diminishment in the appreciation of the food. While all this food is being produced, a lot of it goes to waste, due to sometimes not making it to the markets or getting denied because of its appearance. A solution to this problem could be instead of discarding the food, use it as an energy source. Bioenergy. By replacing a negative solution (throwing food away) with renewable energy, you can do a lot of beneficial work on today’s world. I personally think a solution like this could be good, and very convenient because you are not wasting as much in comparison to the 40% of the U.S food supply that ends up being thrown away.
