Rotten Results: Food Waste and Sainsbury's Efforts

We need to act now. Food waste has become a huge problem around the globe. Roughly one-third of the food produced for humans is wasted each year. approximately 1,3 billion tonnes of food is thrown out. What is the solution? Many people would like to know that answer, but it seems difficult to find the right solution. Many companies are trying to make a difference. We are on the right path as a united world but there is a long way to go. Reducing food waste is one of the sustainable development goals. The goal is to halve food waste by 2030.

Sainsbury has tried to make a difference but was unsuccessful. Why did it not work though? Well, Sainsbury handed out free gadgets that were supposed to reduce food waste by 50% in a town. It only reduced food waste by 9% and that was a huge disappointment for the supermarket. It was a huge effort and a step closer to finding the right method to reduce food waste. But you can’t just hand out free stuff and expect people to help. We all need to be a part of this project and stand side by side if we want to make it possible.
