Joel Davis: Young People of the Year

Young People of the Year is for young people who have done some amazing things.

Joel Davis, one of the people who have won the ‘Young People of the Year’ award, was born in 1995 in the capital of Great Britain, London. Joel Davis grew up in a poor family. His father ran away from home when Joel was 6. They didn’t know why he ran away, or where he is now. That’s why Joel is the one who needed to help his sick mother, Marina Davis, all the time. She couldn’t even eat by herself. While he needed to help his mother all the time, he also went to school. In school he struggled a lot with reading and writing. He tried his best to participate in every class lesson, but because he couldn’t read or write properly it was very difficult for him to understand what he had to do. He never got any help from the teachers. Every day when he walked home from school, he felt stupid. Therefore he took it in his own hands. He started to read every day. He started to read faster and faster. He read for his mother twice a day and wrote a letter to her once a week, and she was very proud of him. The years went by and he got admitted to the university of Westminster.
