Joel Davis was born in 1997, in Islington, London. there grew up with his family, as poor as a church mouse. He spent most of his time nursing his sick mother, while his father, who worked as a street sweeper, was out trying to provide for the piss-poor family.

Struggling in school

As if that wasn’t enough challenge for the young man, he also battled learning how to read. He says, “The words just didn’t make sense to me at all! I was so confused about how the other kids managed to read without any trouble.” The issue is caused dyslexia. Sadly, the poor boy didn’t receive any help from the school, so he decided to take his situation in own hands.

Creator of tutoring service

The inspiring young man has set up a helping service, where other striving students can seek for homework help. Since he started the service, more than 170 have been helped, and it have taught a lot of people that there is no shame in troubling in school. We can’t be good at all we do. Some kids have even met each other through the program, because there’s no greater thing than a friend who gets you. Poor kids are now achieving higher grades. University students have volunteered as teachers. He has also created a website to spread the idea to others. He won £500 and got nominated for the ‘young people of the year award’ due to his tutoring service.
