The text “One Friday Morning” is about a girl named Nancy Lee. Nancy and her family is described as “colored”, because they’re African American. Nancy and her parents moves from the Deep South to the North, so Nancy will get better opportunities in school. Through the story we follow Nancy and her evolution in art. Her teacher, Miss Dietrich, is a big support for her in school. She helps her with getting better at doing art. At George Washington High School she follows her big dream to win the Artist Club scholarship.
Finally when she wins the Artist Club scholarship she gets so happy and can’t stop herself from dancing around. When the committee later founds out, she is colored, they denies her the prize.
Task 2:
Nancy Lee is a young, colored woman who lives in the North with her mother and father. Her mother is a social worker in a city settlement house and her father is a mail carrier. Both of her parents have been working very hard for their educations and now they want Nancy to obtain at least as much as them.
Nancy is very talented in making art. She works very hard on her drawing, so she can win the Artist Club scholarship. She goes at the George Washington High School. Nancy is smart, pretty and brown. She fits very well in the life of the school. Her teachers are very proud of what she’s doing and sees a big talent in her. She is kind of a dream-student, because she is talented and has taken part in different things like the senior musical.
