Indian camp is a short story written by Ernest Hemmingway in 1924. The story begins at before dawn, with Nick, his father, his uncle and an Indian guide. The water they row in are cold, and they are on their way to an Indian camp. Nicks father say there are a sick woman in the camp, he has to help. The woman is pregnant and Nicks father who is a doctor has to help her deliver her baby, because she has been in labor for several days. When they arrive to the camp, the woman is laying in a bunkbed with her husband above her in one of the cabins. The husband has an injured foot. Nicks father has to perform an operation on the woman in labor, because the baby can’t come out by itself. Nick is assisting the operation by holding a basin.
The woman is screaming a lot and moving because of pain, so Nicks uncle tries to hold her down but the woman bites him. Afterwards Nicks father manage to deliver the baby, and he turns to the women's husband where he finds out that he slit his throat with a razor from ear to ear. Nick is asked to leave the room with Uncle George, and by then Uncle George disappears.
