The Taming of the Shrew: fortolkninger og tematik

There are many differences and similarities in the three different interpretations of Shakespeares “The taming of the shrew”. I will try to point out the ones that I have noticed. Before you start reading the differences that I have found, you might want to know that I have called the old movie (the one starring Elizabeth Taylor) “movie number one” and the modern movie “movie number two”.

The play and movie number one:

There is a lot of humor in the play. Because of the very modest use of props, you pay more attention to the characters, their lines, and the story. Focus is on the actors and what they are saying. Here comes the first difference between the play and movie number one. Personally I was glad that I had seen the play because the movie was much harder to understand. First and foremost, the sound was not good because it is such an old movie, but another essential thing is the props. There are more materialistic things to pay attention to, and that influenced my listening to the words and attention to the story. It is so that when your eyes have nothing to look at, you pay more attention to things that you hear, and in the play, there was nothing fancy to look at except from the actors. But in the movie, there were so many things, so your eyes were focused as much as you ears.
