Text 1 & 2 uses many of the same focus points, that social media is an addiction for the youth. Both text 1 &2 is looking very condescending on social media, where in text 3, there is a whole new point of view of the social media era. Dhiraj Murthy is looking more open-minded and less critical, on the social media addiction that is increasing in the society.
In text 3 there is a total different view of social media addiction. Dhiraj Murthy is trying to inform us that the social media, may not actually be an addiction, or at least not as big an addiction as everybody thinks it is. He tries to humanize the social media, as a part of life that can be essential for everyone. Whether you are young or old. Text 1 is trying to define what a social media addiction is. Where in text 2 it´s more about what happens with you if you have this addiction to social media and being online all the time, both short and long-term consequences such as depression and loneliness.
2:
Tony Rao defines addiction as “addictions refer to any behaviour that is pleasurable and is the only reason to get through the day” (text 2 p.1 ll26-28) he also says that calling social media an addiction may be a bit harsh. “Their addiction means spending an increasing amount of time online to produce the same pleasurable effect and it means social media is the main activity they engage in.” (text 2 p.1 ll34-38) in this text piece, Tony Rao explains what he believes to be the source of the social media addiction.
