The Conjuring is an American horror movie from 2013. Directed by James Wan, the movie is the first installment in The Conjuring Universe depicting the cases of real-life ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren. Played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the movie takes one of the most famous cases the Warrens had. The Perron family haunting. In the movie, the Warrens come to Rhode Island in 1971 to assist the Perron family, who has experienced extremely disturbing events.
Plot
In 1971, Roger and Carolyn Perron move into a farmhouse with their five daughters and their dog. Within a few nights, strange things begin to occur. All the clocks stop at 03:07 AM, and Sadie, their dog, is found dead in the backyard.
One night, one of the daughters encounter an evil spirit who wants the family dead. Another night, one of the other daughters gets trapped in the basement after investigating clapping noises, while two of the others get attacked by the spirit upstairs.
Afterwards, Carolyn decides to contact demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens agree to take the case and investigate. After their investigation, the Warrens conclude, that the house may require an exorcism, but they need the authorization of the Catholic Church and further evidence before they can proceed. Later, Ed and Lorraine discover that the to a Witch named Bathsheba, who sacrificed her week-old child to the devil and committed suicide in 1863 after cursing everyone who would take her land. The Warrens also find reports of numerous murders and suicides in the houses that had been built on the land.
