In 1841, African American Solomon Northup, a free man, is kidnapped and forced into slavery under the name 'Platt' for 12 years.
He is kidnapped by two white men, they give him alcohol, and them sell him to slave traders. At first he refused to say that he was a slave and held on to being a free man. Along twelve years, he works in the plantations and Is abused by his masters.
Through the movie he has two masters one more abusive then the other. In all the years he is thinking about his family and only wants to get out and be a free man.
At last he doesn’t even fight back because he has been suppressed for so many years, and now he doesn’t know how to.
One day he meets the Canadian Abolitionist Bass, that at first rats him out to their master, but soloman/Platt, convinced him that Bass that was lying, he then after that trusts Bass again and trusts him with a letter, he wants to get to his family.
The letter gets to his friends in the north and they come to get him, but his ‘’master’’ is not happy, he only wants his slave and is nothing about the person in front of him with feelings and a soul.
