People all over the world are being watched by CCTV cameras every day.
I was really surprised to hear that, there are so many cameras all over the world, watching us every day. I guess I never thought, about how much we are being watched every day. The fact that an average person who lives in Britain, is being watched 300 times a day, is unsettling. The fact that Denmark is not far behind is very unexpected.
I think that most people are aware, that they are being watched in stores, and in streets. I don’t think however, that everyone feels the same about it. While it is okay for some people, if it is just for safety, it can irritate other people. They feel nervous about people watching them. I personally think it is okay to be filmed in stores, because they use the footage to catch shoplifters. When I walk into a store I don’t think that I’m being watched, until I see a camera. When I do see a camera I immediately think about how I look, and what people think about me when they watch it back.
Advantages of CCTV surveillance
The advantages of CCTV are, that you can catch criminals speeding away from crime scenes or people stealing from stores. If a person knows that there are CCTV cameras in a certain area, they may be less willing to commit a crime for the fear of being caught. The cameras make it easier for the authorities to solve cases. If there were no cameras, many cases couldn’t have been solved, because there wouldn’t be any evidence.
