Precious was just a small kid when her mother, Mary, started to abuse her and her father, Carl, starts raping her. When precious was just twelve years old, her father got her pregnant. Her first child was a baby girl with down syndrome, whose is called Mongo. Little Mongo is being raised by Precious grandmother. While she is being kept there, Precious mother is getting all the child benefits.
At 16, precious is pregnant again by her father. Precious was kicked out of school because she was pregnant. But the counselor told her about an alternative school, called each one teach one.
Ms. Rain, who was Precious new teacher, could see that precious was having trouble adapting in life. Ms. Rain told precious to write in a journal. In this way precious learns how to read and write. Precious gives birth to her second child Abdul. When Precious got home to show her mother the baby, and when Mary asked to hold the baby, she did the most unexpected thing and threw the baby to the ground. Precious runs away to take care of her baby boy. Soon after, Precious finds out that her father has died of AIDS. She was very worried that she and Abdul also had it, but finds out later that its only Precious that is tested HIV positive. Life is hard for Precious, but her friends at each one teach one, helps her through. She wants to live and get her baby girl back, so she can be a better mother than her own and give the kids a better life than her own.
