Solomon Northup was a freeborn African American man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the mid-19th century. Despite being subjected to the brutalities and inhumanities of slavery, Solomon maintained his dignity and integrity throughout his 12 years in slavery. He was intelligent, resourceful and had a strong sense of self-respect, which helped him survive end endure the harsh conditions of slavery.

Solomon is a very kind and warm-hearted guy, he only wants the best for people. He is also a very honest guy, we can see that from the way he speaks about the things there is happening, and he don't like to hold secrets. He is also very intelligent, he knows that if he just does what freeman and Epps tells him to do, then there wouldn't be problems for him.
