Suffer the Little Children is a horror short story written by American writer, Stephen King. It was published in 1972.
The story takes place at a school and the story has a timespan of a couple days, with two separate time jumps of a month’s timespan.
Emily Sidley, a primary school teacher, is teaching a class when she realizes, that a boy named Robert is staring at her. She gets suspicious and uncomfortable, and throughout the week Miss Sidney starts punishing Robert for his staring. But instead of stopping, the boy asks Miss Sidley if she wants to see him “change”, and so he does. Sidney is terrified and almost gets hit by a bus while running away, screaming. Miss Sidley takes time off her teaching job for a month, and when she comes back, Robert tells her that there are more “creatures” at the school other than him, disguised as kids.
Miss Sidley gets frightened to the point, where she feels that she needs to take matters into her own hands. She grabs her dead brothers pistol, and puts it in her purse, that she brings to school with her. She proceeds to take the kids, one after the other to a testing room, where she shoots them dead. As she is about to shoot the thirteenth kid, another teacher enters the room and starts struggling with Miss Sidley, her back gives out as they collide.
