The story “Tell Freedom” is an autobiography by Peter Abrams. The autobiography was published in 1954, which is a fairly short period after the second world war, the story is set in Africa’s time of Apartheid, which was a system of institutionalized racial segregation that existed in South Africa. South Africa gained independence from Great Britain, but without gaining any legitimate control. In the story we follow a south African that recalls his childhood and adolescence in the slums of Johannesburg and then his ultimate escape to England to become an accepted black writer. The reader follows the protagonist through a normal day, crackling day.
