“The pedestrian” is a story written by Ray Bradbury in 1951. The story “The Pedestrian” takes place in 2053 and is written in third person. In 2053 they spend more time in front of the tv than communicating with each other. A simple activity like walking is against the law because it´s unusual and a cause for concern. In this case, Leonard gets arrested, and taken to a mental institution, because he´s taking a walk instead of watching tv.
Leonard Mead is the main character of the story and the only person that is seen in town. He’s not a developing character, because he doesn’t change throughout the story, he remains to be the same. But because of his unusual behavior, he is removed from society by the police car. The author doesn’t give too much information about Leonard Mead, but he tells about his footwear: “For long ago he had wisely changed to sneakers when strolling at night, because the dogs in intermittent squads would parallel his journey with barkings if he wore hard heels” Therefore we know, it´s very important to Mead, that nobody hears him, he wants to walk in silence, almost like a spy. He watches people, but he doesn’t want anyone to notice, Mead is a lonely and silent man.
