The reason for his sudden interest in the supermarket was because the food she bought was not American like. He was tired of eating healthy.
When he entered a supermarket, he saw a lot of foods rich in artificial fat and was surprised with joy as if he had entered the promised paradise. Bell's eager entry into a supermarket signifies that he longs for these foods, especially when he says” I longed for artificial bacon bits, melted cheese in a shade of yellow unknown to nature, and creamy chocolate fillings”.
He was amazed at the number of cereals found in a supermarket. Bill was struck by hundreds of cereals, especially the six different types of biscuits. As Bill wrapped his head left and right, looking for his favorite foods, he noticed many new unhealthy foods on the shelves. His surprise continued with him when he watched any new unhealthy product, as if in a coma and he wake up from it when it enters the supermarket. His wife bowed to Bill's wish and allowed him to buy whatever he wanted, from his joy with his wife's approval, he bought breakfast foods for a while.
