Sketches is a really good and a thought-provoking story. The story Sketches is a about a Muslim girl (Malika) in primary school, in the 1950s. Most of the story takes place in the school, where the children have to make a Christmas cards and draw the holy family, Mary and Jesus and animals. The teacher thinks she did very well and should show her parents her Christmas card, but Malika gets disappointed and she wanted to hang her painting on the wall as everybody else. She agrees to take it home, and when she does it her Muslim mother wasn’t happy with the picture at all. Her mother tells her how it’s not correct to draw stables and teach her how to draw pattern paintings like the pictures in the Koran.
