AMANDA GORMAN - INAUGURAL POETRY
TASK A: Before we will work with the poem by Amanda Gorman at Joe Biden’s inauguration, watch this clip about her at PBS NEWSHOUR (First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is a fan of Amanda’s poetry.):
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/poet-tapped-for-inauguration-to-spread-a-message-of-unity
What have you seen in this clip?
Amanda Gorman, in her early years and how she got where she is today. But we also get to know a few things of her personal life such as her having a twin sister, and she was raised by her single mother in Los Angeles, who also happens to be a teacher. The power of poetry is everything to her, she sees it as an art and a weapon.
TASK B:
Now we are going to listen to her speech at the inauguration and read the text at the same time here or online. I translated the most difficult words (The poem only lasts 5 min and 33 sec.)
