’’A Kitchen Scene’’ is a painting by the Danish artist Michael Kvium (1986). On the painting there is a lot of things going on, in the foreground you can see there is a big purple theater curtain, with a pattern on. On this curtain there is baby angels and small devils, all looking at the small girl, standing in the middle of the picture. The girl is dressed in a yellow t-shirt with a red dress on, and wear pigtails. Behind her there is standing a half-naked repulsive woman, that only wears an apron. She is probably the girl’s mother. The girl is being choked by the mother and it looks grotesque and bestial. In the background you can see they are standing in an older looking kitchen, where the dishes are being done.

So why does the woman look and behave like that? If you look at her, she is looking gloomy and have a beastly appearance. You could say that she is turned from the good and well looking mother, to turning into a malevolent woman that shows her evil and devil side. Her face is almost blank and there is no emotion from her, she is rather callous. You could say that the devils are on the mother’s side, because they are cheering on her, while laughing and smiling. That says something about the green colors on the devils, because its a happy color for their situation.
