Plastic has not been around for long; the production of plastic began in the 1950s and has accelerated quickly ever since. In 1964 when plastic had just become popular, they produced worldwide 16.5 million tons of plastic (www3.weforum.org 2016) Compared to now, where over 381 million tons of plastic in 2015 has been produced. For comparison this is equivalent to two thirds of the world population (ourworldindata.org 2018) Plastic today is a part of our life and is found all around us.
The large amount of plastic that is dumped into our environment has a big impact globally and nationally. It poses a threat to communities and infect people with preventable diseases (independent.co.uk, 2019) In this report I will investigate where all this plastic waste mainly comes from, why we keep using plastic despite the problem with plastic disposal and what is being done in order to reduce the usage
