When Abraham Lincoln released the slaves, nobody wants the black people. They did not have any places to go. Most off the black people took to the northern states because they fought for them, but they did not want them. That was when the segregation started. The Jim Crow laws were made. Everything got separated. The schools were separated the hospital and wating rooms for public transport. It was not so bad in the northern sates, but it was really bad in the south. The south states were also called the Deep South.
Emmett Till was born in Chicago, he was happy boy, and he loved fun. When Emmett was 14 his uncle invited him to Mississippi in a little city called Money. He was very exited. His mother was born in Mississippi so she warned him that it was very different than Chicago.
Emmett came to Mississippi. He worked in the cotton fields. One day Emmett and his cousins and some other boys took in to a store called Bryant's Grocery. They went in one by one to by some candy. When it was Emmett’s turn he went in to by something. When he had bought it some witness says that Emmett turned around and wolf whistled at Carolyn Bryant. The owner at the stores wife. Carolyn Bryant got very angry and threatens to shot them. Emmett was very sacred and was afraid that something was going to happen. But nothing happened.
