The killing of the unarmed 17-year-old boy Trayvon Martin in June 2013 really started the black lives matter. When the Trayvon was in the hood where there were a police patrol, he was wearing a hoodie, the police thought he looked suspicious, when the police officer chased after him because he thought he was is being chased by someone and ran, he didn’t know that it was the police chasing after him. The police officer then jumped out and shot Trayvon. The police officer wasn’t sentence and was acquitted cause he claimed that it was self-defense. A lot of people just saw this case as yet another, as many others. Alicia Garza responded to this with a post where she called “a love story to black people” on her Facebook page, and the post was later shared with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. It wasn’t fair to the Trayvon and his family that he was shot, and I think the police officer shouldn’t be able to continue. Yes, maybe he is a racist and don’t like black people, but there is also a chance that he isn’t racist and just did of fear, cause if you were in, he´s situation. You must think he is the hood, and a lot of people is drug dealers so the police officer has to be careful, and when you see a black boy in hoodie that can look sketchy and maybe he´s dealing drugs. Sure, the fact he shot him for no reason, there isn’t an excuse for shooting a innocent kid like he was 17, but he was probably scared. Alicia Garza who is the founder of Black Lives Matter quotes "I continue to be surprised at how little black lives matter. And I will continue that. Stop giving up on black life. Black people. I love you. I love us. Our lives matter." Black Lives Matter got a national breakout in 2014 when a white officer shot and killed the unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. After he was shot, the body was left lying on the street for more than four hours before it was found. Michael’s death caused protests and angry people among the protests; these protests broke out in Ferguson for the most part of the country. The Black Lives Matter activists and hundreds of followers came to Ferguson to stand with the outraged residents.
