“Tom Corridan” is a short story by Arhondia, published in 2018. “Tom Corridan” is about Tom Corridan, an Irish young kid, who wants to break the social heritage and go to university to get a scholarship. Whereas his dad, Frank Corridan, wants him to be a plumber like himself, and earn money so he can help ‘put bread on the table’, instead of ‘reading books for a long time’.
One day, Tom had to pick up his father at the local pub Boyles, as many other times before, since his mother had been cooking for the family. Tom’s family consists of himself, his little brother (Joe), his mother and his dad. This time Tom's father was not in a hurry and they were not going home until his dad had drunk a few more pints.
When they got home his dad became upset because the dinner wasn’t ready. At the dining table Tom’s dad made fun of him due to the fact that Tom didn’t want to be a plumber like his dad. Tom made an insolent retort and criticized his dad. The result of Tom's actions consisted of beatings with fits and with a belt. This was not the first or the last time.
