Parallel with Catherine, is Kevin who asks for a pay rise but gets turned down. After that, he plans to kidnap his boss Nevison’s daughter Ann, with his host at the resort Ashley, and his two workers, where one of them is Tommy. When Kevin returns to the office, Nevison offers to pay for Kevin’s daughter’s college, and Kevin tries to stop the kidnapping, by going to Catherine, but fails. The kidnapping is fulfilled, and Catherine who sees Tommy fails to follow him, and he is alone with Ann. Meanwhile, her dad asks Kevin to help him get the money to pay for her release.

Analysis

Catherine, the main character, is a police officer, 47 years old and divorced, but still sleeping with her ex-husband, whom she divorced after he found their daughter dead. She also doesn’t talk with her other child. She took in her daughter's child and mothers him and lives with her drug addict sister, in a small town, where she is very respected, as a brilliant officer, but in private she has a lot of personal trauma from her daughter's suicide, and finding out the truth about the baby and the rape, together with the fact that her daughter didn’t open up to her, while she was alive. But her personal life trauma, also leads strings into her work life, as she is constantly thinking about the rapist being out of jail, and trying to, in her own words ‘’take matters into own hands’’, by following the rapist, but without result. All of this makes her a round character, as she is very complex, and undergoes a considerable transformation from her work life to her own life.
