The movie "The hate you give" follows 16-year-old Starr Carter, Starr is a black girl who lives in Garden heights, which is a black neighborhood. She is trying to fit into her white prep school, because her parents want her, to have better educational opportunities.

While Starr is leaving a party with her friend Khalil Harris, they get pulled over by a white cop. Khalil ends up getting shot und murdered, Starr remains as the only witness. Starr is torn between whether she should testify as a witness or think about her own safety. She decides to do anonymous interviews, and ends up snitching on the drug lord, King. King is very unhappy and goes after Starr and her family. He even attempts to kill Starr and her brother.

In the end, King gets arrested, and Starr learns to navigate between the two worlds while also getting justice for Khalil.

Justifying actions and charges

I don't think you can justify his actions; however, I think it is explainable. The ghetto environment is very stereotypical, and known for its criminality, so brings out fear. Starr's uncle also explained, that if he saw a black man raise something in that situation, he would have done the same. I understand how they are more cautious, but still, it’s in no way something that you can justify.
