The English middle class have received a bad reputation if you are to believe a report which has recently been published. An organization named Youth Welfare, and London University have written this report from material collected from questionnaires sent to about 1500 au pair girls in different parts of England. Three fourths of the questionnaires were returned and showed some unpleasant facts about how young girls, who come to England to learn the language, are treated.
There is often a big difference between what the young girls being told before they leave and the way they are treated by their host families in England. A great number tell that they only earn £9 a week, which they work about 50 hours by the week, and a lot of them don’t eat with the families and doesn’t get enough food.
