How does stealing affect a family’s life? Will a mother, a father or maybe even a sister be able to forgive? Maybe one doesn’t get a second chance in the family, or maybe it all adds up at the end. There’s no way to figure out at the beginning – not even a simple, little clue you will own. What will happen to a family when the youngest person isn’t as perfect as you thought?
On the outside the family seems happy and maybe even perfect. But underneath the surface lies a remarkably hidden secret. A member of the family is not as angel sweet as she may seem. Our narrator tells that her sister, Michelle, is a thief. Their parents never noticed, which is clearly comes to our knowledge in the following lines:
- My parents, engrossed by other matters, failed to realize that my sister had turned into a thief. (…) but even I had noticed something. Trivial objects disappeared, and she was lurking and secretive. My sister, by the way, was eight at that time.

Our narrator is fourteen and “inundated by sex” as she says so herself. She manages to stay put through the family crisis and tries to help her sister. But like all other human beings, she has a line – a line which soon is crossed by her troubled family. She has a good friend named Gary whom she sees a lot of days during the week. They discuss sex and what comes with it. She doesn’t tell us for sure if she is in love with him. This piece from the text shows both sides; that she isn’t and that she may be:
