What is Americanization? I want to talk about which influence the Americanization has on the Danish culture. I want to focus in the music culture.

Rock 'n' roll The history of Rock’n’roll fazes:

America has since the twenties been seen as the land of fads and crazes, some which were simply that, of social changes which would eventually appear in other countries. Some of these changes would have happened anyway, for the same reason that they had in America. One of the crazes was the Hula Hoop craze in 1958, which spread from the USA to the rest of the world.

With the advance of Rock’n’roll the young became consumers to be specifically targeted.

There are many roots in Rock’n’roll. Some of the genres are; black church, spirituals and gospel, R&B, country and Jump and Cajun. Rock’n’roll can be seen as the synthesis of American folk music. It is the fusion of black and white music.

After the end of the war, Europe is still marked – but in USA the development is going fast. The consume-society is on its way and an invention like the credit card is founded.

Rock’n’roll was adopted by the Danes and became a part of the Danish culture. When the Rock’n’roll came to Denmark, it wasn’t the music it was about, but the dance and movies. The idols were typically famous people as James Dean. The introduction to Rock’n’roll started through dance performances (Jitterbug). The first time Rock’n’roll really had a breakthrough, was in the KB-hall in autumn 1956. The only “real” Rock’n’roll singer were Ib ”Rock” Jensen, who make his first appearance in the KB-hall. The forecasted trouble was not a big problem, like it was in the USA and in Britain. But the trouble really started when a photographer paid some young kids to drop some maroons and make some trouble. Rock n’ Roll is synonymous with sexuality.
