In 1869 diamonds where discovered and thousands of prospectors moved to the area. Because of that many Dutch people moved to South Africa to find the luck. The British also wanted to find the diamonds and together with the Dutch, they came in war against the Afrikaners. The British arrested the Boer, as the blacks where called, and put them in concentration camps, where many of them died. Within 8 years the Dutch and British came together and took 87% of South Africa. That was political, financial and all the military power. Two years later the blacks the political party, called the African National Congress (ANC). They wanted to get some back, which they had lost to the whites.
Apartheid
Apartheid is a “Law”, which the white created in South Africa. It says that the blacks didn’t allow to use the white facilitates. That could be restaurants, toilets etc. The blacks had their own facilitates to use and it was typically the worse restaurants, toilets etc. The police and Military killed, tortured and raped the blacks. They hoped that could stop their fight against apartheid. The citizen on 16 years and above should have a “pass” that showed, which race group they came from. The laws also forbid sex between blacks and whites. The blacks didn’t like it all, but there was no way that they could change it. Actually it was a real hell to be black under apartheid. The blacks couldn’t do almost anything. They just did what the whites want them to do. South Africa was under apartheid between the 1948 and it ended late in the 1990’s.
