I don’t think good sportsmanship is dead, I just don’t think it applies so much as it did once. For example in the old days, you just went down to the stadium on Sundays to see a little football and drink a little beer. I think that in those days they didn’t care as much as the fans do today, today football can become a huge obsession for some of the really loyal fans, and if for example, the referee calls a penalty in the last minutes, then I think it’s really hard for most of the fans, to keep good sportsmanship, and then they just shoot the blame at the referee.
And no, it’s definitely not easy always to respect the referee’s decision. I have tried it myself, when I have been on Blue Water Arena, watching EFB playing against FCK. they are in the last minutes, and it’s still 0-0 and EFB gets a quick attack and scores. all the fans just goes completely nuts of happiness, but then the referee cancels the goal, because he thought that Jesper Lange was offside, and he just wasn’t, everybody could see it, and then the match ends 0-0. Then it’s really hard for even me not respect the referee’s decision, when it’s so obvious that he wasn’t offside.
