‘Love Thy Neighbour’ is a short story written by Jennifer Moore in 2005.
One day, when moving a piano in their apartment, the woman makes a hole in the wall. Through the hole, the man and the woman are able to see what the couple next door is doing, so now they follow their neighbours closely. Somehow the neighbours can’t see the man and the woman or the hole in the wall, only the man and the woman see the hole and through it. Gradually the curiosity for their neighbours grows and they begin to lose interest in everything else. Sometimes there isn’t happening much next door, but some evenings the couple next door dances, and this is what the man and woman like the most. After some time there is a change in the neighbours’ relationship, they aren’t so affectionate towards each other and they don’t dance anymore, at this point in the story, the man and the woman are asked to come and look for a little boy who is gone missing, reluctantly they go to look for the boy with the rest of the neighbourhood. When they return to their apartment and look through the hole, they see the couple next door lying dead, they are angry that they didn’t see this happen and realise that now they have to go back to their own lives.
