What's Eating Gilbert Grape, filmresume

The film “What's Eating Gilbert Grape” takes place in a small town in Endora, Iowa. The film is about the very busy young man named Gilbert Grape. Gilbert has to take care of his family because his father hung himself a couple of years ago. And every day since, Gilbert has taken care of his family. He works in a little grocery store down town, where he delivers the goods to the customers, by driving in his old van. Gilbert had an affair with one of the customers, Betty Carver. But it ended fast since he has fell in love with a new young girl in town named Becky, Becky, travels a lot with her mother in their campervan. Becky really want to meet his mother, but Gilbert doesn’t. But at Arnie’s 18 years birthday, Becky gets to meet Gilberts mother.

Gilbert also has two sisters; they help with all the practical things like making dinner and cleaning up the house. Since Gilbert has the most responsible role in the family, he has to take care of his younger brother, Arnie. Arnie is retarded, so Gilbert is stressed a lot, because he also has to look out for him when he is at work. But sometimes Arnie gets away, and he ends up in the big water tower. Almost everyone from town, even the police, gather’s around the tower. Every single time, after Gilbert gets him down from the tower, he promises the police that it will never happen again. But next time it happened the police had enough, and took him to the police-station. So when their mother heard about it she got angry and then she raised herself up from the couch and walked out to the old rusty car and drove to the station with Gilbert and his sisters. When they were on their way back home from the police-station everyone stared, because no one had ever seen such a huge woman before. People laughed, stared and were taking pictures. Later that night when they got home, their mother decided to make a change and she started walking upstairs to the bedroom. The morning after, she didn’t wake up, because she was dead. And then the rest of the family decided to burn the house down.
